Certificates of Freedom 1823-69

Following transportation to Australia, convicts (mainly British and Irish) could apply for a Certificate of Freedom at the end of their sentence, as proof he or she was now a free person. They were free to travel anywhere, and could return to their homeland. This dataset gives details about their conviction, their sentence and the date the certificate was granted. It encompasses the period 1823-1869.
