- An important seaport on Trinity Bay 908 miles north of Brisbane and 160 miles north of Townsville. Splendid harbour. One of the best known tourist resorts in Queensland. The centre of a rich agricultural district. Within easy reach of the town are several large sugar plantations and two important sugar-mills which are most interesting to visitors. The export of fruit notably bananas is very large. The country at the back of Cairns is one of the richest mineral districts in the State and is being largely developed. For the tourist the district has many charms. The scenery along the railway line includes wonderful scrub country grand mountain scenery and the famous Stony Greek and Barron Falls. Further inland at a distance of 68 miles is Atherton one of the finest districts in the State. Lake Enchain is within easy reach of Atherton. The Herberton district is also worth a visit. Tourists can comfortably enjoy a stay of ten days in the district. The Kamerunga State Nursery is well worth seeing. Innot Hot Springs at Herberton and Chillagoe Caves should also be visited.
