At the mouth of the Endeavour River 1050 miles north-west from Brisbane. The town depends on the back country which is rich in many minerals. Although in the far North of the Australian continent the climate is pleasant the heat being tempered by the cool south east trade winds. A considerable quantity of fruit is grown in the district. The town is of historical interest on account of being the landing place of Captain Cook.
