MACKAY
Name of Hotel or Boarding House:
Australian Hotel

Description of location:
An important town 540 miles north from Brisbane at the mouth of the Pioneer River. The surrounding district is one of the finest for sugar- growing in the Commonwealth. Dairying and agriculture are also important industries and these will undoubtedly increase rapidly as the rich scrub lands are thrown open to selection. The fact that the coastal steamers cannot go to the town wharves (which are reached by tender) has prevented Mackay receiving that attention from tourists and other visitors which it well deserves. Some beautiful drives can be had around Mackay and the district will interest every class of visitors. The climate is healthy and the town well supplied with water. Coffee is successfully grown in the district. Eungella Range (health resort) is close handy. Plenty of fishing shooting boating.
