Description of location:
An important town on the Western Railway 318 miles west from Brisbane. A noted wheat growing district. Winegrowing is also successfully carried on. The climate is healthy. The town is well supplied with water from two artesian bores which have a daily flow of about 400000 gallons The town was also supplied with gas from one of these bores but the supply has been temporarily stopped owing to an obstruction in the bore. A private company which has been boring for oil has struck an enormous supply of natural gas. It is anticipated that when the bore is sunk to a greater depth a supply of natural oil will be obtained. Roma is surrounded by a very rich pastoral district. There is a State experimental farm about 4 miles from town.
