From Townsville tourists can reach many places of interest and beauty. Comfortable steamers ply from here to ports further north with the famous Hinchinbrook Passage with its scenery of surpassing grandeur. This passage cannot be viewed from the larger interstate steamers which should be left at Cairns and the return journey from that port should be done by the smaller steamers as far as Townsville where the interstate steamers can again be picked up. Motor launch runs regularly to Magnetic Island a popular health resort in Cleveland Bay. A fine panoramic view can he obtained from Castle Hill at an altitude of over 900 feet.
